Fish

Fish are gill-breathing aquatic vertebrates and include two very different groups here: cartilaginous sharks and rays, and bony fish. They hold several records, including the longest-lived vertebrate, the Greenland shark, and the largest fish, the whale shark. Swimming speeds are hard to measure in open water and older record claims are often exaggerated, so the speeds given are conservative, well-supported figures.
