Animal Lifespans: How Long Animals Live
How long an animal lives depends on its size, its metabolism, its environment and how many things are trying to eat it. As a rule, bigger animals live longer, cold-blooded animals outlive warm-blooded animals of the same size, and animals in human care outlive their wild relatives because they are protected from predators, hunger and disease. The table gives the typical lifespan in the wild for every animal in the database, with the lifespan in human care where it is known.
